|Comments||This album was a giant commercial success for Santana after a period of relative obscurity during the 1980s and 1990s.The band’s leader and superstar guitarist, Carlos Santana, looking for a more poppy sound that could get much-needed radio play, collaborated on this album with a range of contemporary musicians; Eric Clapton, Rob Thomas, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews and Maná.
The result was an album that hit number one in eleven markets worldwide and sold 12 million copies in the US alone. The single Smooth, with Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty was the monster hit but there are several fantastic tracks including Corazon Espinada with Mana, Africa Bamba, Maria Maria with The Product G&B and The Callin with Eric Clapton.
The band’s Latin groove and Santana’s distinctive guitar sound remain front and centre throughout.
