pronektar-logoThe Pronektar range of oak adjuncts have always been focussed on quality.  They benefit from the know-how of Tonnellerie Radoux; it’s knowledge of oak, of its selection and maturation.  Pronektar products are all made from cooperage-grade oak, sourced from the same forests, seasoned in Radoux’ own seasoning yards and analysed by Oakscan® for homogeneity.  With over fifteen years of experience in the research, development and sales of oak chips and staves, Pronektar is now recognized as the reference brand for oak for wine-making.

 

Radoux brings it’s vast experience in oak selection, seasoning and toasting to the Pronektar range.  

Oak Selection

Selection of wood is the key step, as it determines the initial chemical composition of the products and the compounds that are extracted from the oak and passed on to the wine.

  • volatile compounds, which have an impact on the aromas of the wine, and…
  • non volatile compounds such as ellagitannins.

Ellagitannins have a major impact on wines.  They alter the sensory profile, the tannic structure, the colour, and play a protective role against oxidative breakdown.

Oakscan®

Radoux OakScan® is a system of rapid analysis, stave by stave, based on near infra-red Spectrometry.  With Oakscan®, a unique process developed by the Radoux cooperage, oak is selected according to its tannin content. This technique enables both Radoux and Pronektar to determine products with high or low levels of polyphenols, thus improving the homogeneity and reproducibility of the results obtained when using these oak products in wine-making.

Convection Toasting

Pronektar oak products are made exclusively with cooperage grade oak which is naturally seasoned. The oak is then toasted according to an exclusive thermal process, developed by Pronektar.

The aim of the toasting process is to reveal the aromatic potential of the wood and to help develop the various aromas: toasty, spicy, vanilla, and etc. and also has an impact on the ellagitannins and their contribution towards structure. Pronektar use the principle of convection which enables toasting through to the heart of the wood, which guarantees homogeneity and reproducibility.

Products from the Chips range are made from barrel quality oak coming from the stave mill belonging to the RADOUX group.

All the products are packed in 10 kilo polyethylene aluminum bags. Upon request, granulates can be packed in 10 kilo mesh bags for an additional cost of €0.20 per kilo.

All the products are packed in 20 kilo carton boxes, ie 2 x 10 kilo bags, with the exception of Nektar Fresh, which is packed in pallet boxes of 300 kilos.

NEKTAR FRESH is dehydrated with Spirajoule and sterilized in the roaster at 130°C, but is not toasted.

All the toasted products (granulates and chips) are dehydrated with Spirajoule then toasted at temperatures adapted to the level of toast required.
